BmDodo takes time for development at RGD’s DesignThinkers conference

For the 9th year in a row, the BmDodo Strategic Design team joined thousands of visual communication professionals at the 2014 DesignThinkers conference. RGD welcomed speakers from around the world to share experiences, inspire new ways of thinking, and celebrate the power of design.

The conference is an important annual investment for the team. They shut down the entire office for 2 days of education, collaboration, and development.DesignThinkers was a new experience for Graphic Designer, Leslie Martin. “This was my first time at the conference. I found the whole thing really inspiring.” As a young designer, Leslie was most encouraged by the message that failure can be positive “I took a lot of things away, the main idea being that experimentation leads to great work. You can’t be afraid to get things wrong.”

Brian Dodo, Principal & Strategic Designer, is a different story. After 13 years of attendance, he is considered a DesignThinkers Master. Master attendees personify what it means to be lifelong learners, the importance of which Brian impresses on his team “I take away something new every year and have implemented ideas from DesignThinkers in every area of the business” said

Brian. “You can never think you’ve learned everything there is to learn.” His takeaway from this year’s conference? A new perspective on presenting concepts and teaching people. “Javier Marsical’s talk on color was eye opening” said Brian “he made it very interactive and his whole approach was new to me.”

The team left DesignThinkers feeling excited and motivated. “We love to see what other designers are doing. It helps reinforce our beliefs and our actions” said Brian. “It’s also reassuring to see that your challenges aren’t unique. It keeps us going.”

DesignThinkers is Canada’s largest conference for visual communicators. The event, now in its 15th year, breeds change agents who become drivers of innovation. DesignThinkers invites visionaries from a range of communications-related disciplines to teach and inspire attendees.
