City of Kingston Plaques project

The Gaskin Lion, the impressive iron lion statue in Kingston’s MacDonald Park, is sporting a new look, and – thanks to BmDodo Strategic Design – a brand new plaque.

To mark the 100th anniversary of the Ukrainian settlement in Kingston, the city’s Ukrainian community commissioned a restoration of the lion, which has been a favourite landmark and gathering place among community members over the years.

The City of Kingston commemorated the occasion by designating the Gaskin Lion as the first recipient of a plaque in the new Kingston Remembers series. BmDodo Strategic Design designed the first plaque, and will design all subsequent plaques in the series. The Gaskin Lion plaque, with messages in English, French and Ukrainian, as well as English and French Braille, is the first multi-lingual plaque of its kind in Kingston.
